Building Profilactic

Profilactic is a social media aggregator/lifestreaming service that pulls together just about everything you and your friends create online. This blog chronicles the processing of building it.

Profilactic adds support for Crackle
Just wanted to let everyone know that Profilactic has added support for the video site Crackle. If you're not familiar with Crackle, check out Andrew Huang's film "Doll Face."

This brings the total number of sites supported to 90. Of course, you can still add unlimited custom sites. It is also the first site we support that starts with the letter "e" which is completely irrelevant.

As we mentioned earlier, our goal is to support at least 100 sites by the end of the year. Please post your suggestions as a comment.

Profilactic adds support for Change.org, Bring Light and Helpalot
Just wanted to let everyone know that Profilactic has added support for Change.org, Bring Light and Helpalot. All three help you show support for your favorite causes.

I wasn't aware of charitable social networks until I spoke with Ashley Cecil at last night's Forge Louisville event (read more about that on my personal blog). She is a big fan of Change.org, so I decided to check it out.

This brings the total number of sites we support to 89. Of course, we still support unlimited custom sites. As we mentioned earlier, our goal is to support at least 100 sites by default by the end of 2007.

Profilactic adds support for eSnips.com
Just wanted to let everyone know that Profilactic has added support for eSnips.com. They recently launched their new SocialDNA feature that attempts to match you with other people like you.

This brings the total number of sites supported to 86. Of course, you can still add unlimited custom sites. It is also the first site we support that starts with the letter "e" which is completely irrelevant.

As we mentioned earlier, our goal is to support at least 100 sites by the end of the year. Please post your suggestions as a comment.

Profilactic adds support for Heavy, hulu and MyGamerCard
Just wanted to let everyone know that Profilactic has added support for 3 more sites: Heavy, hulu and MyGamerCard.net.

This brings the total number of sites supported to 85. Of course, you can still add unlimited custom sites.

As we mentioned earlier, our goal is to support at least 100 sites by the end of the year. Please post your suggestions as a comment.
Are you a fan of Profilactic?
If so, join our useless Facebook fan page! We don't know what we'll put there and we doubt you'll get anything out of it. So basically it's just like every other Facebook fan page (We kid! We kid!). Don't fight it, join us here.

Actually, if you wanna be super cool, you could post a video telling everyone why you love Profilactic.

Profilactic to support 100 sites by the end of the year
Although Profilactic always has (and always will) support unlimited custom sites, we have also tried to make sure we support more default social sites and tools than anyone else.

Currently, we support 82 sites (with 2 more coming tonight). 84 just isn't a very cool number, though, so we're making it a goal to support at least 100 sites by the end of 2007.

We have a few sites in mind; however, we'd love to hear what you all would like to see supported. Bonus points for sites that put your username in the URL (since that makes integration super easy) and do cool things with RSS.

Post a comment and let us know. Thanks.
Profilactic releases v2.2
After a lengthy hiatus where some of us have worked on our Master's Degree, started a new company or played a ton of Halo 3 and Guitar Hero III (that's the one I did, btw), we pushed out a few enhancements to Profilactic this week.

The first new feature is "Invite a friend." Now you can send your friends invites to join Profilactic. Plus, we'll keep track of who you invited, when you invited them and whether or not they accepted. We'll also automatically make the two of you friends when they do accept. If you have friends, please send them an invite.

We've also added support for your real name. Lots of members wanted to be able to display their real name so that friends can find them more easily from our site or through a Google search. To update your name, go to the "My tools" menu in the header and select "Edit my profile."

That's it. Just a few handy things that people had asked for over the past few months.

We are already working on the next batch of enhancements that add some really cool, new functionality to the site. The big one will be the ability to pick and choose which feeds you want to see from each of your friends in your Friends Mashup (i.e. you could exclude someone's Flickr photos, but still get their Twitter updates and blog posts).

If you have a feature wishlist, post those ideas as a comment or send them to feedback at profilactic dot com.

Blue Dot renamed Faves.com
Social bookmarking site Blue Dot has changed its name to Faves.com. We still support Blue Dot/Faves.com. Existing users should see no interruption in service for the Blue Dot/Faves.com content in Profilactic.

Profilactic adds support for ffwd and Ask 500 People
Just wanted to let everyone know that Profilactic has added support for video-sharing service ffwd and online poll creator Ask 500 People.

Neither site does much with RSS, so you'll basically just be able to add these sites to your Where to Find Me Online list and badge. Better than a sharp stick in the eye, huh?

This brings the number of sites we support by default to 81. Of course, you can still add unlimited custom sites.
